I think everyone has their all time favourite movie in which they have watched a thousand times or more. For me, the movie didn't have to revolve around intense car chases, action, romance or horror, it simply had to do with the adventure. Steven Spielberg and Richard Donner captured my interest introducing 7 un forgettable characters, Mikey, Brand, Data, Mouth, Chunk, Andy and Steph, other wise known as THE GOONIES. Mind you my selection of movies in which i was able to watch was limited due to me being 8 years old at the time, however, this movie has stuck with me ever since. I remember reciting the whole entire movie easily over 100 times, annoying anyone who hadn't seen the film, or anyone who watched the film with me. The movie was shot in California, Astoria in 1985, creating huge buzz around the soon to be released film. People can relate to the characters but most importantly the plot behind the film. Every child growing up at some point dreams for the opportunity to go on a treasure hunt in hopes to strike gold, and what better way than to do so with 7 close friends. Although the movie revolves around these 7 kids/young adults, we as an audience were also introduced to the other 4 main characters, the evil "Fretellies" a italian family consisting of a mother and her two sons Jake and Francis. These characters are criminals on the loose, hiding out in an abandoned restaurant in which they have yet to find out leads to a buried treasure. My two personal favourite characters in the film would be Mikey Walsh and Chunk. Mikey Walsh is a very rounded character in the film relating to almost every young boy who ever dreamed about finding a treasure map with an unforgettable adventure, where as Chunk, well...he just brought a lot of humour to the film with his infamous "Truffle shuffle." The Goonies doesn't just capture the hearts of the younger generation, it captures the hearts of everyone who watches the film. Mystery, adventure, suspense mixed with family values makes this film truly a classic. I always hoped that they would come out with a Goonies part 2, and for years upon years i read forums, rumours, blogs, and ever interviews with the cast themselves explaining that it was in the works, however, they unfortunately did not. Steven Spielberg explained that by creating a sequel to the early 1985 film, would take away the originality of the film and could potentially tarnish the name of the movie The Goonies. In some ways i agree with the statement that Steven made, but if done correctly i also feel that the sequel could have had a really good outcome. If it was one thing i'm grateful for out of a million other things my parents have provided me would be the day they sat me down and made me watch The Goonies. It was because of The Goonies why i decided to take acting classes and had this dream to become the next Sean Astin (Mikey) playing the role similar in which he played in the film. If you have not watched the film The Goonies, than i highly recommend that you do, and who knows, maybe one day we'll all find our buried treasure somewhere out there.
